Pesticide Analysis Using QuEChERS Extraction : A Comparison of Manual and Automated Approaches

ثبت نشده
چکیده

QuEChERS is a Quick-Easy-Cheap-Effective-Rugged-Safe extraction method that has been developed for the determination of pesticide residues in agricultural commodities. The European Standard is Method EN 15662:2008. While originally developed for plant matrices, the technique has since been adapted to be used in several applications and in many additional matrices. The rise in popularity of the technique and the increase in sample testing loads have lead to automation as a possible solution to increase productivity. The method, as mentioned, is a simple and fast extraction when compared to traditional semi volatile extraction techniques. However, it still requires dedicated manpower, sample prep equipment, manual spiking, manual pipetting, and a wide range of reagents and consumables. The analytical and practical challenges of automating this technique will be discussed and a comparison of extraction recoveries achieved both manually and by automation will be evaluated. Data will be presented that justifies automation as a possible solution to increase sample throughput, reduce costs, and improve the accuracy and precision of the extraction.

Automated Sample Preparation and Analysis Workflows for Pesticide Residue Screening in Food Samples using DPX- QuEChERS with LC-MS/MS

QuEChERS (quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe) sample preparation methods have been developed to help monitor pesticides in a range of food samples. These methods require many manual steps, such as shaking, centrifugation, and dispersive SPE cleanup, making it a quite labor-intensive process. There is a need for automating parts of QuEChERS extraction in order to improve laboratory ...

Current Trends in Liquid-Liquid Microextraction for Analysis of Pesticide Residues in Food and Water

Since the middle of last century, the use of organic synthetic pesticides became a widespread practice, in order to better prevent, control and destroy pests. Despite their usefulness in the increment of food production, the extensive use of pesticides during production, processing, storage, transport or marketing of agricultural commodities can led to environmental contamination and to the pre...

Efficiency of QuEChERS approach for determining 52 pesticide residues in honey and honey bees

A comparison between QuEChERS and other pesticide extraction procedures for honey and honey bee matrices is discussed. Honey bee matrix was extracted by solvent based procedure whereas solid phase extraction was the protocol for the honey matrix. The citrate buffered QuEChERS method was used for both matrices. The methods were evaluated regarding cost (equipment and reagents), time, accuracy, p...

Evaluation of the QuEChERS sample preparation approach for the analysis of pesticide residues in olives.

This paper describes the use of a quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe (QuEChERS) method for extraction and cleanup of 16 pesticide residues of interest in olives and olive oil. These products contain a high lipid content, which can adversely affect pesticide recoveries and harm traditional chromatographic systems. For extraction, the main factors (oil and water content) were studied...

Analysis of Pesticide Residues in Apple Using Agilent Bond Elut QuEChERS EN Kits by GC/MS

This application note describes the use of a quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe (QuEChERS) sample preparation approach described in the European Committee (EN) for extraction and cleanup of 17 GC-amenable multiple pesticide class residues in apple. The method involves initial extraction in an aqueous/acetonitrile system, an extraction/partitioning step after the addition of salt, a...
